A Proud History

  • 1969: Baypark was built in Mt Maunganui as a speedway track by local speedway enthusiasts.
  • 1979: Significant upgrades culminated in the opening of Todd and Pollock Baypark. Today Rex Pollock is a Director of Tauranga City Venues Limited, the company which owns and manages Baypark.
  • 1980's -1990's: Strong club activity resulted in a host of local drivers winning national events in saloon cars, midgets, solo bikes and street stocks.
  • 1995: The Todd and Pollock speedway was closed due to urban growth.
  • 2000: A new location at Te Maunga was decided upon and local businessman and and former Speedway Champion Bob Clarkson stepped up to build a multi-million dollar Speedway facility.
  • 2001: Baypark was offically opened and the roar of engines was once again heard in the region.
  • 2007: Ownership was transfered from Bob Clarkson to Tauranga City Council who had established Tauranga City Venues Limited to administer Baypark.
